Before We Start (Part I)

Before you start - you need somewhere to build

The Other Half persuaded me that this piece of "prime building land" being sold by a relative would be ideal for our retirement home and an absolute snip. About 1.5 Rai (2400m2) conveniently close to her son's restaurant and commutable to Bangkok.

Let me translate "prime building land" => "swamp".

"It only floods occasionally" => "well only once a year anyway".

Soooo, we'll be needing some fill then.......

Khun Wife directing and counting truckloads of fill. We ended up with about 300 truckloads.

Mud pies for grownups :)
<== You can see just how close to river level the original land level was.
Sloped edges are formed on the clay core. Once it's dried out a bit a layer of topsoil will be added to support the plants (mainly bananas) that will be put in to help hold it all together.
To keep everyone happy, it's vital to clear up any spill from your trucks.
